What Makes an Introvert?
Would you be surprised to know that at least 1/3 of the people in the world are introverts? (Cain, 2012) By looking around, it would be hard to believe. Do we simply glance over those who are quiet because we are so distracted by those who stand out? Or do we attribute to these individuals characteristics which do not necessarily apply to them?
Introverts are often misunderstood. Although many people assume introverts are shy the two personality types are quite different. Although both these individuals may avoid social gatherings, they do so for very different reasons. Where a shy individual may want to socialize but often are afraid to, introverts many times are very comfortable socializing but often feel more reward from spending time with themselves (Helgoe &Hutson, 2010). Introverts may be drained by large gatherings and require restoration in times of solitude. Many introverts have a love of reading, writing, hiking, fishing and painting.

During opportunities of communication, an introvert will often be more cautious in their choice of words. They often think before they speak, require more facts to come up with an opinion and are found listening more then speaking (Helgoe &Hutson, 2010).
Although introverts spend much of their time alone, they do spend as much time as extroverts with close friends, family and romantic partners. Introverts as much as extroverts experience mood boosts from spending time with loved ones, but are often exhausted by the events (Helgoe & Hutson, 2010).

Your Personality Profile:
I = Introvert. If you answered the majority of the questions true, you're probably an introvert. Given the choice, you'll devote your social energy to the people you care about most, preferring a glass of wine with a close friend to a party full of strangers. You think before you speak, and relish solitude. You feel energized when focusing deeply on a subject or activity that really interests you. You have an active inner life, and are at your best when you tap into its riches.
E/I = Ambivert. If you answered the questions evenly, true and false, you're probably an ambivert - meaning that you fall smack in the middle of the introvert-extrovert spectrum. In many ways, ambiverts have the best of both worlds, able to tap into either pole as needed.
E = Extrovert. If you answered the majority of the questions false, you’re probably an extrovert. You relish social life, and are energized by interacting with friends and strangers alike. You are assertive, go-getting, and able to seize the day. You're great at thinking on your feet, and are relatively comfortable with conflict. You are actively engaged in the world around you, and are at your best when you tap into its energy.
